Cordyceps (Cordyceps sinensis)
- Fatigue: A study by Nagata et al. (2006) investigated the anti-fatigue effect of Cordyceps sinensis extract powder during physical exertion.
- Oxygenation: A double-blind, placebo-controlled study found that Cordyceps can improve oxygenation in healthy elderly individuals.
- Physical performance: Another clinical study investigated the increase in aerobic capacity and respiratory function in healthy elderly volunteers by taking Cordyceps sinensis.
- Memory: A study on mice examined the improvement of learning and memory functions through treatment with Cordyceps polypeptide.
Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum)
- Well-being: A study investigated the effects of Ganoderma lucidum on mood and health-related quality of life in women with fibromyalgia.
- Sleep: Studies in mice have shown that reishi can promote sleep via a gut microbiota-dependent and serotonin-involved signaling pathway. An extract of Ganoderma lucidum was able to enhance pentobarbital-induced sleep via a GABAergic mechanism.

- Blood sugar: A phase I/II study investigated an extract of Ganoderma lucidum in patients with type II diabetes.
- Antioxidant effect: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study investigated the antioxidant and liver-protective efficacy of Ganoderma lucidum enriched with triterpenoids and polysaccharide peptides in healthy volunteers.
Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus)
- Nerve growth: Research from the University of Queensland reports that certain components of Lion's Mane, hericenone and erinacine, can promote nerve growth in preclinical studies.
- Cognitive function: A double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial investigated the improving effects of the mushroom on mild cognitive impairment.
- Mood and sleep: One study investigated the reduction of depression and anxiety by taking Hericium erinaceus over a period of four weeks.

Shiitake (Lentinula edodes)
- Immune system: A randomized intervention study in young adults showed that daily consumption of shiitake mushrooms can improve the human immune system.

- Cholesterol and antioxidants: A double-blind, randomized clinical trial investigated the effects of shiitake on lipid and antioxidant profiles in individuals with borderline high cholesterol.
King oyster mushroom (Pleurotus eryngii)
- Neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects: An ethanol extract from the mushroom demonstrated a protective effect against cellular damage in cell studies. It reduced the release of nitric oxide (NO) from microglial cells, suggesting a potent anti-inflammatory effect.
- Gut health: A 2025 in vitro study found that a fermentation supernatant from the mushroom protects the integrity of the intestinal barrier and modulates inflammatory signals. Another study found that a protein extracted from the mushroom alleviated inflammatory symptoms in mice with colitis.
- Broader immunomodulatory potential: Preclinical studies showed that polysaccharides from the oyster mushroom exhibited antioxidant, antibacterial, lipid-lowering, and immunoregulatory activities.
Chaga (Inonotus obliquus)
- Immunomodulation: Polysaccharides isolated from the fruiting body of Chaga have shown immunostimulatory effects in cell studies.
- Antioxidant effect: Crude polysaccharides from Inonotus obliquus showed antioxidant properties in cell studies.
- Additional studies: Preclinical studies investigated the effect on the intestinal flora, as well as antiviral activity against hepatitis C viruses and herpes simplex viruses in cell cultures.

Maitake (Grifola frondosa)
- Depression: A mouse study found that Grifola frondosa (GF) elicited significant antidepressant effects involving AMPA receptor activation in mice.
- Blood lipid levels and diabetes: Animal studies investigated the anti-hyperlipidemic effect of maitake and its ability to improve glucose tolerance in rats with diabetes.

- Fertility: A maitake extract induced ovulation in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome in a study.
Almond mushroom (Agaricus blazei)
- A review of preclinical and clinical studies examines the anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects of Agaricus blazei.
- A randomized clinical trial investigated the intake of an almond mushroom extract in birch pollen allergy sufferers.
Common fire sponge (Phellinus igniarius)
- neuroprotective potential
